Product Review: Design Essentials Hydrience Argan Moisturizing Creme

Design Essentials Moisturizing Creme

I was sent this lovely product a while ago and I decided not to rush myself to post a review, because I wanted to make sure I used the product thoroughly before posting a review.I have about a few good squeezes of this product left, so yeah I’ve pretty much used the entire tube. To wrap it up in one phrase. I love this product!! Unlike most moisturizers it’s not heavy and I absolutely love that about this product. It adds instant moisture and shine to my hair and it doesn’t weigh it down. That was most important to me when using this product, because when I want to wear my hair down and in s simple style I don’t want it to be weighted down or greasy.  The product smells absolutely amazing and not at all over bearing. Most scented products can cause a odd smell after a few days of use, that was not the case with this product.

I recently color treated my hair with permanent hair dye, and I must say this has helped to save my hair (adding daily moisture) along with deep conditioning weekly. Considering the weather is attempting to change to colder days, your hair will change as well. Colder days are going to lead to dryer hair strands. Therefore using a good hair moisturizer or keeping your hair moisturized is important and crucial. If you’ve ever wondered why your hair sheds or tends to break more during the winter months, this is why. Change in climate. Adding this product to your daily routine can help to alleviate and minimize hair breakage and shedding during the winter months.

Fierce & Festive Natural Updo’s for the Holidays

Design Essentials Master Stylist Deshonic Kerrie

Hello Blog Lovers!! We are fast approaching Thanksgiving and soon after my favorite holiday Christmas. I always get overly excited during this time of the year and I think it has a lot to do with getting together with family, great food, and the joy that comes along with the holidays. While you are preparing yourself for those yummy holiday dishes, holiday shopping, and holiday outfits…Design Essentials has created the perfect holiday how to on Updo’s for Natural Beauties. Although these are created on Natural Hair, this can also be achieved on any hair texture. Below you will see how Master Stylist Deshonica Kerrie used one of my favorite hair tools the spiral rod to create the last hair style. Check it out and let me know how you plan to style your hair for the holiday festivities.

    Design Essentials® Multi-Roll Updo

STYLING TIP #1: When creating the perfect, chic holiday updo, Design Essentials® Master Stylist Deshonica Kerrie prepped the model’s hair by first blowdrying it 80% straight.  By blow drying the hair first, it is easier to achieve smooth flat twists which helps to anchor the updo from the sides. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #2: After twisting the side of the hair, Deshonica parts the remaining hair into multiple sections and begins to roll and tuck the hair, securing each roll with pins.  To ensure a smooth look while keeping the hair moisturized, Deshonica applies Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress to each rolled section. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #3: This revolutionized French Roll which includes several multi-rolls was created using Design Essentials® Natural Curl Cleanser Sulfate Free ShampooNatural Moisturizing ConditionerNatural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress.  This is a great styling option for longtime and newly naturals, offering the perfect double-take style for the holidays!  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

Design Essentials® Old & New Updo

STYLING TIP #1: For a festive night out this holiday season, Deshonica suggests creating a trendy look by combining a little bit of the old and new for a funky up-do. Deshonica achieves this style by first crafting a flat twist design around the sides and back of the hair. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
STYLING TIP #2: After completing the flat twists, Deshonica rolled and tucked sections of the hair by applying dime-sized amounts of Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress. Afterward, each roll was secured with hair pins.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
STYLING TIP #3Deshonica finishes this old and new retro style by locking in shine with a light mist of Design Essentials® Diamonds Oil Sheen, smoothed over each roll with the fingertips.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

    Design Essentials® Spiral Updo
STYLING TIP #1: For a great updo to last your readers through the holiday season (approx. 2-4 weeks), Deshonica offers up the Spiral Updo. This style is achieved first by using Design Essentials® Natural Twist and Set Setting Lotion. After applying the product, Deshonica took small sections of the hair and hooked it to small and medium sized setting rods, making sure to start at the base of the hair while wrapping the hair downward, around the rod, toward the end. The hair was then secured to the rod with a hair clamp. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #2: After removing the rods upon drying the hair, Deshonica Kerrie separated the coils using Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion to achieve frizz-free, individual ringlets.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #3: Voila! Upon separating the coils, this natural girl is ready to start her holiday celebration! For long lasting wear, Deshonica recommends applying a small amount of Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion to revitalize curls and reduce frizz as the curls begin to expand with wear.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

    My Favorite Leave-In Conditioners

    December 2011

Hello Blog Lovers!! Happy Monday!!..well it may not be that happy because the weekend is over..but SMILE anyway you’re alive. I shared with you guys in my Hydrate Leave-in Conditoner post that I would reveal to you guys my favorite leave-in conditoners/products.  I’ve been using these products for a while and I can truly tell a difference in my hair since I’ve been using them. What’s the purpose of a leave-in conditioner?? Glad you want to know, because I was preparing to tell you anyway.

A Leave-In conditioner is used after you shampoo your hair and condition it with a rinse-out conditioner.  Leave-in conditioners usually contain humectants which help to moisturize the hair. A humectant is a substance which is added to hair products and also food products to help the product retain moisture. In a nutshell..leave-ins help to keep your hair from being too dry. Many leave-ins contain vitamins, proteins, and even heat protectants.

These are my favorite Leave-in conditioners. They’re not in any specific order and not listed from favorite of all to least favorite.

    1. Design Essentials HCO Leave-in and Blow Dry lotion
    2. Design Essentials Hydrate Leave-in Hydrating Conditioner
    3. Aphogee Pro-Vitamin Leave-in
    4. ApHogee Keratin Green Tea Restructurizer.
    5. Cantu Shea butter leave-in  repair creme
    6. Elasta QP Design Silk Thermal Styling Spray

    October 2012

    7. It’s a 10 miracle leave-in product

That’s seven of my favorite leave-in conditioners and as you can see I’ve already blogged about 5 of the 7  products. Don’t worry I will be sharing more information about the other two. I just recently purchased those two products and I must say that in the short time that I’ve been using them, they have delivered amazing results. Now you may be wondering, Does she use all of them at the same time? The answer is NO.  The good thing about all of these conditioners is that they are water based. Water is the number one ingredient. When searching for a great leave-in conditioner, one that is water based (water listed as the first ingredient) is a good one to have.  Only three listed above contain silk amino acids (proteins) which are great for the hair, and all of the conditioners contain humectants (which help to retain moisture).

How I use these leave-in conditioners
I use these conditioners after every shampoo. If you’ve been following me for a while you should know I shampoo my hair once a week (every Friday or Saturday). The reason why I do this is because I have a naturally oily scalp and the other reason will be explained in a later post related to skin care. If you are African American don’t assume that you can only wash your hair every two weeks.
HCO, Elasta QP, and It’s a 10 are heat protectants. Depending on how I feel for the weekend I will alternate between these three but they are combined with other leave-ins because I have to blow dry my hair. I usually can use a generous amount of Elasta QP because it doesn’t contain a silicone. It won’t leave a sticky feeling to my hair. It’s a 10 leav-in conditioner can actually be used alone (throw everything else away, because this product offers all of what the other products listed above offer in one bottle).
I use both ApHogee products every time I shampoo my hair. I don’t swear, but I swear by these products. They are the TRUTH. No lie. I think they work great for my hair and I can contribute my recent hair growth to ApHogee products. I can use a generous amount of these products with out my hair feeling sticky (generous amount meaning more than 3-4 sprays). If you use the Pro-Vitamin leave-in you have to dry on low heat or let your hair air dry (I let my hair air dry 90%, by doing this you minimize heat damage, the less amount of heat (low heat) you use while drying keeps heat damage at bay).
In the past, I was using the Cantu Shea Butter Repair Creme. Since the discovery of the Design Essentials Hydrate Leave-in Hydrating conditioner, the Cantu hasn’t been used as much. Both of these products contain Dimethicone which if too much is applied, it will leave a sticky feel to the hair.
NOTE: Silicone’s keep moisture out…Humectants draw moisture in. You don’t have to necessarily avoid using silicones (products that contain silicone’s) but you should use them in sparingly (follow the directions, if a dime sized is required use the dime size)

If you decided to use these products (the ones that contain protein, make sure to use them sparingly and with caution to avoid potential protein overload…but this can be avoided if you balance with moisture).

My hair loves these products (well at least my hair has grown). I believe that all though there is a science to growing hair, it’s not that complex. In my opinion hair growth is most of what you use and how you handle it. A good diet is important as well and PLENTY of water, but the products (the ingredients) along with proper care you hair can grow. I like to Keep it Simple. Shampoo, Condition, and Deep Condition every two weeks, minimal to no heat, and low manipulation (keep yo’ hands out of it).
If you’re not using a leave-in conditioner of some kind (with awesome ingredients) then what are you waiting for?? Try one of these products or try them all. They work and most of all they will yield results.
What are you favorite Leave-In Conditioners?? Thanks for reading!! Tell a Friend!! Peace and Blessings ♥
I am not affiliated with any of the products mentioned. 🙂 YEP That’s me in those pictures and all of that hair (belongs to me and my scalp) is mine.

Miss Nic’s Spotlight: Introducing Philisha Mack Owner of Preeminence Salon & Boutique, LLC

Hello Blog Lovers!! As some may or may not know I have a spotlight feature for the blog that allows me to introduce to you both men and women who have accomplished a lot of things within the beauty industry. Today I’m introducing Philisha Mack, founder and owner of the Preeminence Salon and Boutique,LLC  located in Marrietta, GA. I had the opportunity to meet Philisha, visit her salon (more details to come) and ask her a few questions about her salon.

Philisha Mack, founder and owner of Preeminence Salon & Boutique, LLC (PSB), is a dynamic woman and entrepreneur whose community service and innovative concepts in healthy hair care and extensions is revolutionizing the industry. Born in Sumter, SC, she is family oriented and has a strong sense of community. She is a health care professional and a highly educated woman whose focus is bringing women together to foster empowerment one fabulous hair style at a time. This inspiration was the driving force behind opening her fabulous salon. With a keen eye for fashion, it was only natural for her to include a boutique within the salon. She believes that women should look and feel fabulous while being leaders, mothers, wives, sisters, and career focused. Check out the interview below and stay tuned for more about my visit to the salon along with a giveaway.

MNEE:  A what point did you know that you wanted to become a salon owner??
     PM:
After going to several salons in Atlanta, surrounding states and even abroad, I could never find a salon that I was truly happy about and yearned to return. It became my mission to establish a salon that catered to women and allowed them to feel comfortable, not judges, while receiving professional services. I knew that I wanted to combine my love for fashion, which is why I created a boutique component to the salon. It was important for me to have a fashion and beauty while building my brand. Women can come and relax and receive a full range of services here and leave feeling inspired from our positive sayings and pictures strategically place throughout the salon while being catered to in an upscale environment.

MNEE:   As a newly opened salon in the Atlanta/Marietta area, what makes your salon stand out among other salons in the area?

    PM:
The premise of my salon is based upon women empowerment. We are a boutique salon, which gives an intimate feeling while offering privacy and exclusivity to clients. We service the entire family while ensuring that customer service and the “full experience” is amazing, relaxing and professional. Our signature Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme is a favorite to a lot of our clients and adds to the glamour of the salon. We focus on healthy hair care in a professional Aveda Concept Salon setting. We are a multicultural salon and cater to all ethnicities while offering precision cuts, dimensional color and natural hair techniques that promotes growth and provide a “no heat damage” guarantee to all clients going from natural to straight. The majority of Aveda Salons cater to one specific demographic. We are able to cater to a wide variety of clients.

MNEE: As a business woman, what advice would you give to women who desire to start their own business??

    PM:
The most important advice is to follow your passion and not focus so much on the “whys” and the “how”! Never let fear deter you from your goals.

MNEE:   What product lines do you carry in your salon??

    PM:
We are an Aveda Concept Salon so we carry Aveda products, Design Essential and Joico. We also carry our own brand of extensions-Preeminence Extensions: Brazilian Extensions in which we guarantee our hair for a year.

MNEE:    Tell us about your salon and what future clients should expect from their visit.

    PM:
We respect our client’s time and do not double book our stylists. Your appointment will start on time and the experience begins upon your entry to the salon. You are pampered and catered to while being relaxed and enjoying refreshing beverages and snacks. Soft elegant music is playing in the background while being serviced. It is a total experience!

MNEE: Are there any other services that you offer you clients besides hair and makeup services?

    PM:
We offer waxing services, we have recently added a barber to our staff so that women could bring their sons and significant others to the salon as well. The family unit is important to Preeminence and we wanted to ensure that the entire family was able to partake in the ultimate salon experience. We also offer make-up classes for beginner to intermediate levels including theatrical classes.

MNEE:   I love the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Theme for your Salon, why was this chosen for your salon? In essence do you feel it sums up the salon experience?

PM: Yes, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe are fashion icons but deeper than that they were esteemed women with timeless beauty and elegance whose era screams glam, beauty and class. We want women to feel beautiful, confident while carrying out the roles of wives, mothers, sisters, daughters and careers.

MNEE: I noticed that your salon does a lot to give back to the community, How important is it to you as a business owner to stay involved and give back to the community and why?

PM: It is imperative to give back to the community. We have partnered with several organizations throughout Marietta and Atlanta. Particularly our focus is to bring awareness to breast cancer patients-we are a Locs of Love salon participant, we also focus efforts in domestic violence and homeless shelters. Preeminence means superiority and we firmly believe that giving back to the community through various volunteer avenues speaks to the essence of who we are and our brand.

MNEE:  Could you tell us about your exclusive hair extension line that you offer your clients.

    PM:
We offer Preeminence Extensions, which are a line of Brazilian Extensions. We have various textures including Straight, Wavy, Curly and Jackson Wave, which is a deep ringlet curl. Our Preeminence Extension line comes with a year guarantee and is truly worth the investment. We carry our hair in our salon as well as it can be purchased via our website at www.preeminencesalon.com

    .
MNEE:   Do you have any first time client promotions available for new clients?

    PM:
New clients receive 15% off their services, which includes a complimentary make-up and hair consultation.

HPOW: Design Essentials Hydrate Leave-In Hydrating Conditioner

Hello Blog lovers!! I know.. I haven’t posted a Hair Product of the Week in FOREVER!! gigglesm but I’m trying to catch up. This product that I’m going to share with you guys is an AWESOME product. It’s not because it belongs to my favorite salon brand family (coughs* Design Essentials), but since I’ve been using this conditioner for the past 10 months (yeah it’s been ten months and I’m just now sharing, forgive me for keeping it a secret for this long), I’ve seen a huge difference in my hair. The product that I’m referring to is the Design Essentials Hydrate Leave in Conditioner. I was first introduced to this “magic in a bottle” after my Design Essentials Holiday Make-over.  I have been using it ever since. It only takes about a dime sized amount for my hair (root to tip) and it leaves my hair soft, shiny, and manageable. I love combining this with my other leave-in conditioners (to be discussed later) and I absolutely love how it makes my hair feel, especially when it feels dry ( My hair has it’s moments). Since it’s getting cold, this product is something that you should purchase to use during the winter months.

    Stats

DESIGN ESSENTIALS® HYDRATE LEAVE-IN HYDRATING CONDITIONER is a cream based leave-in conditioner that revitalizes and moisturizes dry thirsty hair.

  • Botanical extracts instantly softens and moisturizes hair that is extremely dry and brittle
  • Quickly penetrates the cuticle and delivers moisture to prevent hair breakage
  • Leaves a brilliant shine on the hair
  • Ideal for dry or coarse hair
  • Can be used weekly or on dry hair in between shampoos
  • Detangles on contact

  • I can honestly say that I have experienced all of the above with this product. There is an immediate softness to my hair after it’s been distributed from root to tip and it feels even softer after it’s been dried. I think this product is a product that I will keep on hand to use at all times after I shampoo my hair. I have not used this on my hair in a dry state, but  I’m sure the results will be the same. This product doesn’t leave a residue on the hair,, but I wouldn’t recommend using more than a dime sized amount (to avoid any possible build up, if there is any). The longer your hair of course you can use more. Keep in mind that a little goes a long way. This product can be used on both relaxed and natural hair, great for any hair types.
