HPOW: Optimum Care 6-N-1 Miracle Hair Oil

Optimum Hair oil

Hello Blog Lovers!! I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday!! I know I did, I’m still recovering from the Turkey and Dressing. This weeks Hair Product of the Week is the Optimum 6-N-1 Miracle Hair Oil. I discovered this product when I first purchased theDeep Conditioning Hair Masque which is a new product that is featured with their Salon Collection product line . It wasn’t until I saw the commercial for this product on Youtube (yeah I’m influenced by catchy cute commercials, but who isn’t?) that I decided to purchase this hair oil the next time I went shopping.

I know when you think of hair oil, the first thing you think of is heavy, weighted down, lifeless hair. This hair usually looks extremely oily and can be annoying especially if you want to light flowing hair. I was scared to use this product because I didn’t want oily hair. My scalp produces enough on it’s own. I tried the moisturizing and sealing technique before and after a week of oily hair of course I stopped. I made up my mind to never attempt to put oil on my hair point blank period.

This hair oil can be used for six different things and contains six different natural oils. It’s light weight and doesn’t weigh your hair down and won’t make you feel as if you need to shampoo every three days. This 6-n-1 miracle hair oil contains Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Apricot Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Avocado Oil. It can be applied to the hair, scalp, and skin. This product can be used as a hot oil treatment  daily leave-in conditioner, moisturizing scalp oil, braid, loc, and extension conditioner, all day frizz controller, and dry skin hydrator.

Here are a few ways that you can use this product via the Optimum Product Website
•   In a small container pour ¼ cup of Optimum Salon Hair Care 6-in-1 Miracle Oil.
•  Sit container in hot water for a few minutes to heat up oil.
•  Part hair into 4 sections and apply oil to scalp and massage into hair and scalp.
•  For brittle ends, apply more of the Optimum Salon Hair Care 6-in-1 Miracle Oil to ends of hair and massage into hair well.
•  Let oil remain on hair for 10-15 minutes and then shampoo out with a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
• Style as usual.

• Style as usual, then…
• Place pea size amount of Optimum Salon Hair Care 6-in-1 Miracle Oil in hands and rub together to distribute evenly.
• On natural hair or curly styles, scrunch oil into curls to add definition to curls and leave them conditioned.
• On straight hair, use hands like a flat iron and smooth oil into hair for smooth, soft, touchable hair.

• Part hair into 4 sections.
• Apply small amount of Optimum Salon Hair Care 6-in-1 Miracle Oil with fingertip or cue tip to scalp.
•  Sub-divide each section into inch-wide sections and apply oil to scalp.
•  Continue working through each section until complete.
Massage into scalp.
• Style as usual.
How I Use This Product
I use this product in my deep conditioner. I simply add to it and mix this in with my hair conditioner, then I rinse it out. My hair isn’t greasy or weighed down. It almost looks as if their wasn’t a drop of oil added to my hair. I also apply this to my hair every other day when I’m wearing my hair in curls. When I apply to my hair I use a small amount and rub it through my hair from root to tip. It adds just enough shine and pizazz to my hair. I believe the reason why I love this oil is because it’s not heavy. We have all found a product or used a product that advertised that it was lightweight and it ended up being everything but lightweight.  Give it a try. It retails for about $9 and I purchased it at my local dollar store. You can find it at any Drug Store or large retailer such as Target or Wal-mart.

HPOW: Elasta QP Design Silk Thermal Styling Spray

Beautysets - Hair Product of the Week

Hello Blog Lovers!! This weeks HPOW (Hair Product of the Week) is the Elasta QP Design Silk Thermal Styling Spray. I spoke of this product last week in my Favorite Leave In Conditioners post. Check out the video above to hear more about the products in case you missed reading the post. I absolutely love this thermal styling spray. The number one reason is because this product is nutrient packed with great vitamins, oils, and protein.  I’ve been using this product for a while now and so far I feel that it does what it says it’s supposed to do. What is that you ask? This product is a heat protectant that will leave your hair incredibly soft, silky-smooth with great body movement and shine.  My hair feels silky smooth once it’s been dried and it does have a great shine these days.  This product can be used and should be used on clean hair before blow-drying, roller setting, or wrapping.

As stated in my Favorite Leave in Conditioners post, this product contains a humectant which is added to conditioners to help the hair retain moisture. Although this product is labeled as a heat protectant it is also a conditioning product. Check out the product stats below.
Elasta QP Design Silk Thermal Styling Spray is an advanced Vitamin-rich Organic formula that infuses healing, restorative conditioners  and moisturizers that instantly detangle and strengthen the hair deep in side. It contains Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, and Silk Protein and is also rich in vitamins A, B2, C, D, E, F, H, and K which aid in protecting the hair from thermal styling damage.
Water, Polyquaternum-11, PVP, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Biotin (Vitamin H), Linoleic Acid ( Vitamin F), Persia Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, [contains Vitamins B2, D, A, E, K and Potassium], Lmidazalidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Hydroxyethyl Cellulosem Polysorbate 20, Hydrolyzed Silk, Parfum (Fragrance), Citric Acid.

If you are familiar with any of those ingredient names then you know there is some great things in this one bottle for your hair alone that could help it grow all while protecting it from heat damage. I love this product and I’m going to continue using it. I purchased it after purchasing the Elasta QP shampoo for Relaxed Hair (Blog about it later). I loved that shampoo so much I decided to pick this up! Thankful that I decided to purchase it.

What’s your favorite Thermal Protectant Spray (used on your hair before blow drying)?

Fierce & Festive Natural Updo’s for the Holidays

Design Essentials Master Stylist Deshonic Kerrie

Hello Blog Lovers!! We are fast approaching Thanksgiving and soon after my favorite holiday Christmas. I always get overly excited during this time of the year and I think it has a lot to do with getting together with family, great food, and the joy that comes along with the holidays. While you are preparing yourself for those yummy holiday dishes, holiday shopping, and holiday outfits…Design Essentials has created the perfect holiday how to on Updo’s for Natural Beauties. Although these are created on Natural Hair, this can also be achieved on any hair texture. Below you will see how Master Stylist Deshonica Kerrie used one of my favorite hair tools the spiral rod to create the last hair style. Check it out and let me know how you plan to style your hair for the holiday festivities.

Design Essentials® Multi-Roll Updo

STYLING TIP #1: When creating the perfect, chic holiday updo, Design Essentials® Master Stylist Deshonica Kerrie prepped the model’s hair by first blowdrying it 80% straight.  By blow drying the hair first, it is easier to achieve smooth flat twists which helps to anchor the updo from the sides. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
STYLING TIP #2: After twisting the side of the hair, Deshonica parts the remaining hair into multiple sections and begins to roll and tuck the hair, securing each roll with pins.  To ensure a smooth look while keeping the hair moisturized, Deshonica applies Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress to each rolled section. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
STYLING TIP #3: This revolutionized French Roll which includes several multi-rolls was created using Design Essentials® Natural Curl Cleanser Sulfate Free ShampooNatural Moisturizing ConditionerNatural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress.  This is a great styling option for longtime and newly naturals, offering the perfect double-take style for the holidays!  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
Design Essentials® Old & New Updo

STYLING TIP #1: For a festive night out this holiday season, Deshonica suggests creating a trendy look by combining a little bit of the old and new for a funky up-do. Deshonica achieves this style by first crafting a flat twist design around the sides and back of the hair. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
STYLING TIP #2: After completing the flat twists, Deshonica rolled and tucked sections of the hair by applying dime-sized amounts of Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress. Afterward, each roll was secured with hair pins.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
STYLING TIP #3Deshonica finishes this old and new retro style by locking in shine with a light mist of Design Essentials® Diamonds Oil Sheen, smoothed over each roll with the fingertips.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
Design Essentials® Spiral Updo
STYLING TIP #1: For a great updo to last your readers through the holiday season (approx. 2-4 weeks), Deshonica offers up the Spiral Updo. This style is achieved first by using Design Essentials® Natural Twist and Set Setting Lotion. After applying the product, Deshonica took small sections of the hair and hooked it to small and medium sized setting rods, making sure to start at the base of the hair while wrapping the hair downward, around the rod, toward the end. The hair was then secured to the rod with a hair clamp. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
STYLING TIP #2: After removing the rods upon drying the hair, Deshonica Kerrie separated the coils using Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion to achieve frizz-free, individual ringlets.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy
STYLING TIP #3: Voila! Upon separating the coils, this natural girl is ready to start her holiday celebration! For long lasting wear, Deshonica recommends applying a small amount of Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion to revitalize curls and reduce frizz as the curls begin to expand with wear.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

Skin Care Thursday: How I Maintain Clear Skin

Skin Care

Hello Blog lovers!! Today is Skin Care Thursday!! I’ve received numerous complements on my skin via my Youtube videos and I just wanted to share with you guys some things that I do to keep my skin clear. Clear skin or should I say skin that is free from zits and dark spots is really important to me. My skin is top priority along with the overall health of my hair. Like everyone else, once I hit puberty I experienced breakouts on my face and that is when I first began to pay close attention to my skin and what triggered the breakouts.

I discovered that my scalp was naturally oily and a long time ago I wore bangs, and the oil from my scalp was on my hair and in my face. I soon realized that this was causing my breakouts to happen. At the time I was shampooing my hair every two weeks, and this is when  I opted to shampoo my hair once a week.  Once I started doing this I noticed that my skin started to clear up a bit.  As for cleansing my skin I was using a store brand glycerin soap that my mom suggested I use to clear up my skin. I tried Mary K products, Avon Products, Noxema (which broke me out in hives), and basically anything that I felt would help (none of them worked).

One day while out with my mom I discovered Ambi skin care products at my local beauty supply store and I began to use the Complexion Cleansing Bar. I begged her to buy it..this bar worked wonders for my skin. I made sure to use it morning and night. To help even out my dark spots that were left behind from my breakouts, I used the Ambi Fade cream (my mom used it and told me to use it). I immediately started to see a difference in my skin. After many different trials and errors with my skin care routine I stuck with Ambi for a long time.

The biggest thing with your hair being dirty is that once you shampoo your hair and put product in it, it’s dirty. After you go outside into the air where dirt and dust is flying around, it’s even dirtier. The more product you put on it, it gets dirtier. The more you sweat it gets dirtier. We all have a tendency to touch our face throughout the day ( I think the average person touches their face 1,000 times a day) and sometimes it’s after we have scratched out head. Clear skin can happen if you keep your hair clean (especially if you have dandruff and oily scalp) and maintain a good cleansing routine.

Today, because I wear make up I focus more on my skin than before. I don’t do these things everyday but I make sure to do them at least when I feel the need to do so, or once a week. Everyone should know that when cleansing your face you should use a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. You should never skip the toning (astringent) step because it helps to remove excess dirt, oil, and build up. I use a facial mask and I exfoliate to remove dead skin cells.

I DO NOT WEAR MAKEUP TO BED!! That is a terrible thing to do to your skin. I never really understood why you would wear make up to bed. Your eyes are closed and if you’re married your husband’s eyes are closed, but when you wake up your pillowcase is full of foundation and your lashes (just random thoughts). To each his own, but to be honest you are clogging your pores and it’s leading to your breakouts and other skin problems. Your Hubby or Significant other should understand that your skin is important underneath your makeup.

On days that I do wear make up I remove all of my makeup (that includes lashes and eyebrows) with my Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Wipes (I use two). Then I proceed to cleans, tone, and moisturize.

Here are the things that I do to keep my skin clear from blemishes:

1. Drink Plenty of water ( I drink mostly water and sugar free juice)
2. Wash my hair at least once a week (keeps dirty hair from aggravating my skin
3. Eat Healthy ( I try to maintain a healthy diet, I eat lots of veggies and lean meats)
4.  Change my head scarf or wash it once a week ( I don’t use a dirty head scarf on clean hair)
5. Change my sheets once a week (I don’t like to sleep on a dirty pillow case and I DEFINITELY don’t want others using it PET PEEVE)
6. Change my facial clothes (wash cloths) once a week (okay..I’m a little anal but it works!! 🙂 )
7. CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS FOR MY SKIN TYPE AND ISSUES (The same thing with my hair, if you choose the right products you will see results).

The products that I use and love are from the Neutrogena Deep Clean Product line. You can purchase this at any local retailer and it’s affordable. Since using these products I have seen a tremendous difference in my skin. I use the cleanser for cleansing, the wipes for removing my makeup, astringent for removing excess dirt and oil, and I moisturize with plain ole Cocoa Butter facial lotion (My ex turned me onto this and I’ve been using it ever since).

I exfoliate with the Neutrogena Micro Dermabrasion Home kit (facial scrubs irritate my skin). At night I moisturize with the St. Ives Timeless Skin Moisturizer. ALL OF YOUR BEST KEPT BEAUTY SECRETS ARE DONE AT NIGHT!! For under eye puffiness or wrinkles I use the Olay age defying wrinkle cream ( I saw a little wrinkle and I went bizurk). It helps to reduce my morning puffiness from late nights. Facial Masks are done when needed. I can tell when my skin needs a boost. I used the Queen Helen Mint Julep Facial Mask as my go to facial mask. It dries up all unwanted blemishes.

This is what I do to help keep my skin clear. I can’t always help the once a month breakouts..but I do keep them under control with my skin care routine. I still use and purchase the Ambi Complexion bar. I alternate between using this cleanser and my Neutrogena Cleanser.

Makeup Wednesday: Battle of the BB Cream

Battle of the BB Creams
Hello Blog Lovers!! Happy Hump Day! Today I wanted to share my personal review and thoughts on two BB Creams that recently purchased and have been using for while now. The great thing about these BB Creams is that they are affordable and can be picked up at local retailers such as drug stores, Wal-mart, or Target. When I first heard the word BB Cream the first though that came to mind was “Oh Lord, Here we go another face product, what’s the hype all about”? I immediately had to Google what it was because it was a new term and product that was new to me.  As you may or may not already know BB Cream stands for Beauty Balm Cream, Blemish Balm Cream, or Blemish Base Cream (whatever floats your boat) that originated in Korea. The original purpose of the BB Cream was to help treat blemishes, but today they are used to help rejuvenate the face (source).  After hearing the buzz circulating via Youtube and of course commercials, I purchased two different products to test them out.

The first BB Cream that I purchased was the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. This BB Cream promises to do 8 things for your face under your makeup or when worn alone.  This BB Cream is likened to a tinted moisturizer because it offers light coverage. This BB cream offers the following: Blurs  Imperfections, Brightens, Evens Skin Tone, Smooths, Hydrates, Enhances, Protects with SPF 30, and contains 0% oils and heavy ingredients.  This particular BB cream can be purchased in five shades ranging from different variations of light to dark.

The second BB Cream that I purchased was the L’Orel Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream. This BB Cream promises to perform most of the same things that the Maybelline BB Cream promises to accomplish. This BB Cream offers the following: hydrate  Corrects, evens, and perfects. The other benefit offered with this BB cream is that it works great as a primer. It doesn’t offer the same coverage as the Maybelline BB Cream, but it does go on white and changes to blend in with your natural skin complexion. It contains micro beads that open when rubbed into the skin to assist with perfect matching to your skin tone. This BB cream can be purchased in four shades ranging from fair to deep.

As I mentioned above the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream can be likened to a tinted moisturizer. However, I like to wear it under my foundation. I tried to wear this alone and apply powder on top, but I didn’t care for the outcome. Although deep is their darkest shade, it’s not completely in sync with my skin complexion. I can see a difference in my skin once applying the BB Cream opposed to when I don’t apply the BB cream. It does offer a smoother finish to my foundation. It’s not a primer, and if you have combination skin like myself, you will need to apply a primer underneath this BB Cream to avoid your shine from emerging. I don’t think the product is oily (because according to the product it contains 0% oil), but it didn’t minimize or banish my natural shine from emerging from underneath my foundation.

The L’Oreal BB cream doesn’t offer great coverage at all in my opinion to be worn alone. Even though it contains pigmented mirco beads to match my skin tone. My face looks really ‘ashy’ and pale. It goes on white and does change in color, but it’s minimal. I wear this under my foundation as well. I will say that this BB Cream does work best as a primer and does keep my shine at bay. I don’t have to worry about my face becoming super oily with this product. After dusting on my translucent powder once I don’t have to keep reapplying. It’s no where near as great as my Smashbox face primer, but it does work well under my foundation. It does create a smoother finish for my foundation, but not as hydrating to my  face as the Maybelline BB Cream (that may be why my shine emerges more with Maybelline vs. L’Oreal).

I did like both products for what they were, but in my opinion the L’Oreal BB Cream works best for me. I can skip using a primer with this particular BB Cream. I don’t have to weigh my face down with products which will later cause an issue for my skin. Is it mandatory to wear a BB cream? In my opinion not necessarily  If you wanted to opt for a smoother finish to your face with light coverage then yes try a BB cream. However, wearing a foundation primer works just as good if not better.

Have you tried a BB Cream? Which one was your favorite??

My Favorite Leave-In Conditioners

December 2011

Hello Blog Lovers!! Happy Monday!!..well it may not be that happy because the weekend is over..but SMILE anyway you’re alive. I shared with you guys in my Hydrate Leave-in Conditoner post that I would reveal to you guys my favorite leave-in conditoners/products.  I’ve been using these products for a while and I can truly tell a difference in my hair since I’ve been using them. What’s the purpose of a leave-in conditioner?? Glad you want to know, because I was preparing to tell you anyway.

A Leave-In conditioner is used after you shampoo your hair and condition it with a rinse-out conditioner.  Leave-in conditioners usually contain humectants which help to moisturize the hair. A humectant is a substance which is added to hair products and also food products to help the product retain moisture. In a nutshell..leave-ins help to keep your hair from being too dry. Many leave-ins contain vitamins, proteins, and even heat protectants.

These are my favorite Leave-in conditioners. They’re not in any specific order and not listed from favorite of all to least favorite.

1. Design Essentials HCO Leave-in and Blow Dry lotion
2. Design Essentials Hydrate Leave-in Hydrating Conditioner
3. Aphogee Pro-Vitamin Leave-in
4. ApHogee Keratin Green Tea Restructurizer.
5. Cantu Shea butter leave-in  repair creme
6. Elasta QP Design Silk Thermal Styling Spray

October 2012

7. It’s a 10 miracle leave-in product

That’s seven of my favorite leave-in conditioners and as you can see I’ve already blogged about 5 of the 7  products. Don’t worry I will be sharing more information about the other two. I just recently purchased those two products and I must say that in the short time that I’ve been using them, they have delivered amazing results. Now you may be wondering, Does she use all of them at the same time? The answer is NO.  The good thing about all of these conditioners is that they are water based. Water is the number one ingredient. When searching for a great leave-in conditioner, one that is water based (water listed as the first ingredient) is a good one to have.  Only three listed above contain silk amino acids (proteins) which are great for the hair, and all of the conditioners contain humectants (which help to retain moisture).

How I use these leave-in conditioners
I use these conditioners after every shampoo. If you’ve been following me for a while you should know I shampoo my hair once a week (every Friday or Saturday). The reason why I do this is because I have a naturally oily scalp and the other reason will be explained in a later post related to skin care. If you are African American don’t assume that you can only wash your hair every two weeks.
HCO, Elasta QP, and It’s a 10 are heat protectants. Depending on how I feel for the weekend I will alternate between these three but they are combined with other leave-ins because I have to blow dry my hair. I usually can use a generous amount of Elasta QP because it doesn’t contain a silicone. It won’t leave a sticky feeling to my hair. It’s a 10 leav-in conditioner can actually be used alone (throw everything else away, because this product offers all of what the other products listed above offer in one bottle).
I use both ApHogee products every time I shampoo my hair. I don’t swear, but I swear by these products. They are the TRUTH. No lie. I think they work great for my hair and I can contribute my recent hair growth to ApHogee products. I can use a generous amount of these products with out my hair feeling sticky (generous amount meaning more than 3-4 sprays). If you use the Pro-Vitamin leave-in you have to dry on low heat or let your hair air dry (I let my hair air dry 90%, by doing this you minimize heat damage, the less amount of heat (low heat) you use while drying keeps heat damage at bay).
In the past, I was using the Cantu Shea Butter Repair Creme. Since the discovery of the Design Essentials Hydrate Leave-in Hydrating conditioner, the Cantu hasn’t been used as much. Both of these products contain Dimethicone which if too much is applied, it will leave a sticky feel to the hair.
NOTE: Silicone’s keep moisture out…Humectants draw moisture in. You don’t have to necessarily avoid using silicones (products that contain silicone’s) but you should use them in sparingly (follow the directions, if a dime sized is required use the dime size)

If you decided to use these products (the ones that contain protein, make sure to use them sparingly and with caution to avoid potential protein overload…but this can be avoided if you balance with moisture).

My hair loves these products (well at least my hair has grown). I believe that all though there is a science to growing hair, it’s not that complex. In my opinion hair growth is most of what you use and how you handle it. A good diet is important as well and PLENTY of water, but the products (the ingredients) along with proper care you hair can grow. I like to Keep it Simple. Shampoo, Condition, and Deep Condition every two weeks, minimal to no heat, and low manipulation (keep yo’ hands out of it).
If you’re not using a leave-in conditioner of some kind (with awesome ingredients) then what are you waiting for?? Try one of these products or try them all. They work and most of all they will yield results.
What are you favorite Leave-In Conditioners?? Thanks for reading!! Tell a Friend!! Peace and Blessings ♥
I am not affiliated with any of the products mentioned. 🙂 YEP That’s me in those pictures and all of that hair (belongs to me and my scalp) is mine.
